I recall in college we were watching Family Ties. One episode had the younger daughter with a boyfriend that was a little on the wimpy side. This was junior high and he was getting bullied, so she comes to the rescue and punches the bully out.

In a later scene, the bully was taunting the boyfriend for having a girl defend him. I shouted at the TV "Shut up, dude. You're the one who just got their ass kicked by a girl".

Even more incredible is that in BatYuck's world, Summer Moore is considered an untouchable woman of the world. I shudder to think what would pass for an approachable girl.

Anyone want to bet this dweeb is texting the wrong person?

Survey says: it was the "friend" all along fucking with him. Ostensibly to keep him from trying to ask out Summer, because why try when you know you'll just get terrible, humiliating failure. Ah the Funkyverse.

Maybe I don't understand texting... But I've never texted someone without knowing whose number I was texting to.

Now, let's see. Surely there's a way for all of this to make perfect sense.

(1) Cody doesn't have Summer's number, so he texted a random number that happened to be Wool-Hat-Dude's. WHD then replied and pretended to be Summer. Hmm. Defies both logic and probability.

(2) Cody texted Summer, but she is too much of a goddess to reply. Wool-Hat-Dude knows that in advance, so he texts back (from a completely different number?) and pretends to be Summer. Still sounds screwy.

(3) Cody texted Summer, who immediately texted WHD begging him to get his friend off her case. So WHD texts Cody with the presumptive blessing of Summer, and...

'Skuze me a minute...... (Where did I put that bottle of Tylenol?)

One feels there is only one way that this conundrum can be explained: Cody asked Summer for her number. She had no interest in romantic overtures from him, so she responded by giving him the number of his own friend.

More likely, however, the artist gave the story a random twist that has absolutely no logical defence.

And it seems Funky Winkerbean is building toward what was bound to happen sooner or later in it's bleak hellscape:

Murder-suicide! If nerdboy can't have Summer, no one can. Only question is how many people he takes down with him?

If Cody and Vendo Man are BFFs, wouldn't he already know his number. I'm still not sure how the deal with him texting Summer anonymously works.

Curiously, Summer has morphed into quite the guy magnet. Yet the only time she's wearing anything other than that one oversized hoodie is during one of Batiuk's role-playing kink-fests.

It's called "writing."

It helps if you've never owned a cell phone and aren't burdened by knowing how they work.

Uh oh. Here we go... Now we're expected to believe that nobody noticed the two dudes walking around holding hands at Funk High until just now?

I have a feeling someone will have to make the following observation at some point, so let's just get it out of the way now. Ahem:

Lynnuck did it first, and better.

And let the smirking gay storyline begin.

Was it one of these guys who was humming show tunes at his locker a year or two ago? Or was that even in this strip?

If Summer Moore were the hottest chick at my high school, I'd probably turn to guys myself.
